OMG! Definitely did not expect the superior experience! My husband and I decided to give this spot a try impromptu! When I say A-MAZ-ING! The ambiance is nice and comfortable, 3 floors of historic memorabilia, my favorite pieces were the cool antique cash registers. The service was beyond exceptional! Our waitress Erin was very attentive and knowledgeable! She recommended the green fried tomatoes I was considering and boy they were nothing like I've ever had! So delicious! Packed with flavor! For dessert I had the seasonal peach cobbler made with fresh locally grown peaches! A-mazing!

This is a review of the newly renovated and recently opened Rod and Reel restaurant. It looks like most of the other reviews here, with the exception of one is for the old restaurant prior to it undergoing a huge facelift and change of ownership. Had dinner here this past Saturday evening to celebrate a birthday. I really have to say that everything was top-notch. The hostess was friendly when we arrived. Our waitress, Callie, was super friendly and helpful. She was able to make recommendations and give us detailed descriptions of most of the menu items. Manager came over to check on us and make sure everything was to our liking. Everything we ate was really delicious. There wasn't one person in our party of 5 who was not happy with their meal or drinks. The dining room is nicely appointed, but not overdone. We were there in the evening, but could easily tell that the large windows in the dining room provide an excellent view, overlooking the marina and outside of the resort during the day. I could easily see myself coming back here for happy hour, another full dinner or even just for dessert and drinks. Would definitely recommend as this is easily gonna be one of the nicer dining experiences in the twin beaches and north end of Calvert county.

“I was raised in Calvert County, but moved 29 years ago to the mountains at Deep Creek Lake, MD. Every once in a while I need a saltwater/Chesapeake Bay fix and this is where we come! Usually try to come during the week when rates are a little cheaper. Excited to see the new renovated section, it wasn’t open yet when we just stayed there but still love the original hotel. Was able to get a deal on a corner waterfront king suite and it is an awesome room. Did have a beer at the dockside bar and the bartender was awesome. All staff was great & place is kept really clean! Can’t wait to come back and stay in the new section!”

This is a nice hotel in a good location. Our room had a nice view of the bay and was clean, in good repair, and well-appointed. There is an adjacent parking garage with free, plentiful parking. We LOVED this restaurant! Starting with our fantastic server, North- who was so lovely with us from meal beginning to end. We had steak bites to start, which were such excellent quality and tremendous flavor that we brought an order back with us! The one year old even loved them. I had fish and chips- fantastic lightly battered fish- French fries were light and just crispy enough. The pasta portable bucatini pesto was excellent - maybe a bit salty but still so good. The salmon was delicious as was the burger. All fresh and SO flavorful! We also had white sangria which was beautiful as well as delicious and refreshing. I highly recommended this restaurant if you're in the area. One note: park on the second level of the open garage there- the restaurant is on that level and is breezy and beautiful even on hot days if you want to sit outside!

Hidden Gem on the Bay!

I had my wedding at the Rod ‘N’ Reel this June, and it was truly the experience of a lifetime! I was planning an intimate celebration with about 65 guests and needed something beautiful, yet budget-friendly—and this venue exceeded every expectation.

The newly renovated wedding dome, banquet hall, and lobby were absolutely stunning. The space felt like a hidden gem—elegant, modern, and made us feel like we were celebrating at a luxury destination resort just steps from the Chesapeake Bay.

Lori and Rhachelda were incredible from start to finish. They guided me through the planning process, helped with setup, and kept everything running smoothly on the big day. It was one of the hottest days of the summer, but they went above and beyond to make sure we were all comfortable, hydrated, and happy. Their warmth and attention to detail made the day feel effortless.

The bar and banquet staff were also wonderful—friendly, attentive, and made sure our guests were well taken care of. My family stayed at the on-site hotel. While it hasn’t been updated yet, it was clean, spacious, and perfect for a short stay. I stayed in a suite, which gave my bridal party plenty of space to relax, get ready, and enjoy the morning together. Watching the sun rise over the water from that suite was unforgettable.

If you’re dreaming of a beautiful, affordable wedding that feels like a true escape, I can’t recommend Rod ‘N’ Reel enough. It was magical from beginning to end!

"My family rented kayaks here recently and it was a great experience. You can book online but we just walked up and it was fine. No complaints about the quality of the kayaks. We were able to store our bags before heading out in the water. 10/10, will come here again."
